OUR BEGINNINGS
the wake up call
In 2017, I was living the fast-paced, jet-setting life that is New York City in your 20s. I worked hard at advancing my career at a Fortune 500 company while playing even harder in the City That Never Sleeps and other energizing locales around the world. Needless to say, every minute of every day was filled.
Then, in mere seconds, my world was completely upended. Two of my closest loved ones - my mom and beloved dog Kenji - were diagnosed with cancer. Talk about a wake-up call.
I instantly realized that life can be unexpectedly short. In order to live a healthy, more fulfilling life, I needed to take better care of myself and the world around me. That meant the always on-the-move, constant-state-of-exhaustion had to go... and ASAP.
As someone who grew up around entrepreneurial parents, I inherently knew how to put in the legwork. So full force I went. I became obsessive about healthy habits - from diet and exercise to stress reduction and clean beauty. You name it, and I was signed up and sitting front row.
During these down-the-rabbithole sessions, a common thread kept appearing: fabric toxicity. As in, those clothes that you’re wearing are made with synthetic toxins that are soaking into your skin. I knew I had to do whatever I could to decrease this chemical exposure. But what fabrics could I wear that were good for me and the environment?
the answer is silk
Not only is it naturally breathable, buttery soft and gentle on your hair and skin, but it is also biodegradable - a big plus in my new sustainable journey.
It didn’t take long before I learned that silk was expensive. Anything that was marketed as silk with an affordable price tag was actually polyester, a product of petroleum oil. Because we spend ⅓ of our life in sleepwear and another ⅓ in workwear, I thought, why not make clothing that can transition to both while taking care of our wellness in the process?
With no experience in fashion or sustainability, I quit my stable job with cushy income, moved back to my hometown state of California, set my standards ridiculously high and began the adventure that is known today as More Sunday.
Through all the highs and lows, the good and the bad and the never ending “no’s,” my goal has always remained the same: to help people feel their best so they inspire to do better for themselves, their loved ones and the planet.
